for Foreign Learners (ILFL) – phase III

The interest of foreigners in studying the Indonesian Language has developed since 1970s and currently it keeps increasing. The factors affecting the growth of interest in learning Indonesian Language as the wide geographical area and cultural diversity in Indonesia are  great potentials for the development of Indonesian Language.

Many regions in Southeast Asia use Bahasa Melayu, which is the root of the Indonesian Language, for the daily communication. To accomodate this interest, since 2010 SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Language has been conducting a series of workshops on Materials Development of Indonesian Language for Foreign Learners based on ICT,  and the recent one was taken place on May 23rd to 27th in Jakarta.

The participants of this workshop were 24 persons consisting of lecturers from the University of Indonesia, practitioners and lecturers of language from the Center for Development and Empowerment for Language Teachers and Education Personnel (CDELTEP), as well as the staffs of SEAMEO QITEP in Language. The resource persons came from the Language Centre of Bandung Institute of Technology Mr Gumawang Djati , from  Goethe Institut Jakarta, Mr Sudiarno and experts from SEAMEO QITEP in Language.

The wokshop aimed to verify a  web-based learning materials from the two previous workshops conducted last year. The learning materials are geared to adopt the standard from the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) level A1. To reach such purpose, the participants learned the standard of CEFR level A1 and were introduced how to design and develop an on-line material. By the end of the workshop, the participants presented their works and were reviewed by the resource persons.

The SEAMEO QITEP in Language intends to continue developing online learning materials for Indonesian Language for Foreign Learners (ILFL) until the materials are ready to be launched and used by anyone interested in acquiring the language.
